Maureen Martin has had the pleasure of calling several countries home: Cameroon, Central Africa, Canada, and the United States. Her professional background includes time in the newsroom (CITY-TV/MUCH MUSIC), film production, and marketing/Public Relations. Her strength as a business professional is in creating successful marketing and business strategies. Professional stints include working with agencies such as Young and Rubicon, and Cohn and Wolfe.

I created Blaq App and our racial equity social enterprise in April 2020 in response to civil unrest. Our focus is on a real-life solution to our systemic problem of bias and not only protecting but also improving the lives of society’s most vulnerable citizens.

April Howard

A retired NYPD officer, April Howard oversees community training in safety and community policing. Officer Howard was born and raised in Bushwick Brooklyn. She now resides in the Bronx. She studied Health and Human Services at SUNY at Buffalo. She was a decorated Police Officer for 28 years. She worked patrol in the 79 in Bedford Stuyvesant and finished up her career in Police Service area 5 in Harlem were she received a citation from the NYS Assembly for her work in the housing community. Officer Howard is dedicated to improving the relationship between the public and law enforcement and believes a community does not have to give up its rights or freedom in order to feel safe. A society where both the community and law enforcement feel supported and respected is necessary and achievable.

Climo Junior Professor of Sociology at Case Western Reserve University, Acting Co-Director of African and African American Studies. Her research focuses on how racial minorities, particularly Blacks, manage contemporary forms of racism with the goal of uncovering how contemporary processes of social exclusion and inequality function to disadvantage racial minorities.
